Orchids - Jewels of the Garden

Orchids are one of the largest families of flowering plants, with an estimated 30,000 naturally occurring species worldwide. The world of Orchids is so vast and diverse and there are so many incredibly beautiful flowers in almost every colour. Here are some of the Orchids growing in my garden.  

Sun, Sea, Southern Islands and Sailing

Scattered in the turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea, the Langkawi archipelago is made up of 99 tropical islands which still remain totally authentic and untouched by tourism. The many secret coves, rocky islets, fjord-like passages and glorious beaches are its greatest assets and these make an excellent place for island excursions, yachting holidays and other sea-sport activities.

On the southern end of this legendary island, the calm, sheltered sea offers superb sailing conditions, along with a great range of anchorages. This sailing area is also blessed with many geological wonders consisting of marble caves, remnant islands, doline lake, sea-stacks and sea-arches, and other wave-related features.

Epitomised the picture-perfect beauty of a tropical paradise, Langkawi's breathtaking coastline is the true heart of this captivating wilderness. A trip to this UNESCO world heritage site is to transport oneself into a world of mystery, awe and adventure par excellence.

Black and White: Paper Kite Butterfly

The Paper Kite butterfly (Idea leuconoe), (also called Rice Paper, Tree Nymph, or Wood Nymph), is a distinctive black and white butterfly. The wingspan measures up to 110cm across, and considered to be one of the largest butterflies. This butterfly is called a "Paper Kite" because its wings look like they are made from rice paper and they glide and float in the air like a kite.
