Majestic Mat Chinchang & Langkawi Cable Car

Taking an exhilarating Cable Car ride to the top of Gunung Mat Chinchang, 708 metres above sea level is an unforgettable experience. The 2.2km journey is full of heart-stopping thrills and its splendours are enhanced by the views across to the coast of southern Thailand and the surrounding islands that a clear day affords.

A remarkable piece of engineering, the Langkawi Cable Car was awarded by the Malaysia Book of Records for 'the Longest Free Span Single Rope Cable Car - total length of 919.5 metres' and it is one of the steepest gradients in the world at 42 degrees.

Protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the majestic Mat Chinchang Mountain range has been earmarked as one of the sites within the Langkawi Geopark development and it is part of the Mat Chinchang Formation, the oldest rock formation in the country with an age of about 550 million years.

Last May, I travelled to Cameron Highlands with a group of friends, for a mid-year vacation. Cameron Highlands is one of Malaysia's most popular tourist destinations, a collection of peaceful townships perched 1500 meters high on a nest of serene mountains. The highland's stunning scenery ranges from towering peaks and lush valleys to idyllic tea plantations and vast vegetable gardens. 

This highland paradise still retains much of the charm of an English village and has always something to offer to those who are imbued with the spirit of discovery and adventure. It is also an area of outstanding natural beauty that provides the perfect opportunity to relax amidst peaceful surrounding and explore off the beaten track.
