Cameron Highlands - Getting Thorny at Cactus Farms!

No trip to Cameron Highlands is complete without a trip to the cactus farms. Cactus farming is a popular activity and there is a vast range of cacti and succulent plants in an infinite variety of shapes, sizes and colours being cultivated here.

To many people, a cactus is a tall, spiny plant that they see in movies of the wild west. There are, in fact nearly 2500 different species and even greater number of distinctive forms. Some cacti and succulents are cultivated for their flowers, while many are grown for their shape and form. One thing to remember about cacti is that, all cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are cacti.

Despite Cameron's cold climate, these desert plants can adapt well to the moist and freezing conditions, and seeing them up close, there is more than meets the thorns. The most common cacti and succulents grown here are Echinocactus, Gymnocalcium, Echeveria and Graptoveria.
